Comprehensive Eye and Vision Examination

At United Optical a Doctor of Optometry will perform your eye exam using a series of vision tests, and will screen your eyes using state of the art equipment for corneal and retinal disorders.  Upon completion of this thorough examination, the optometrist will discuss the results with you and a treatment plan will be implemented. 

The Comprehensive Eye and Vision Examination follows the guidelines of the American Optometric Association (AOA), and includes but is not limited to, the following:

  • Case history
  • Distance and near entrance acuities (either without correction and/or with habitual)
  • Pupillary reflexes and ocular motility testing
  • Gross visual fields, i.e. confrontation
  • Tonometry
  • External examination of the eye, including biomicroscopy
  • Internal examination of the eye with either indirect and/or direct dilated, or direct undilated opthalmoscopy
  • Objective refraction
  • Subjective refraction
  • Best corrected visual acuity at distance and near through the subjective refraction
  • Binocular function tests
  • Color vision, when indicated
  • Diagnosis and treatment plan

Importance of Vision Care

Regular eye exams may detect many health problems in their early stages. It is very important that you schedule periodic eye exams with us!

AOA's Recommended Eye Exam Schedule

Age 0-5 First exam by 6 months, then at 3 years of age
Age 6-18 Before first grade, then every 2 years
Age 19-40 Every 2 years
Age 41-60 Every 2 years
Over 61 Annually
